Dynasty of Evil by Drew Karpyshyn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
In the end I gave both the second and third books in this series 3 out of 5 stars, but this book is the better of those two; however, both pale in comparison to the lead book in the series.
(view spoiler)[The annoying side-plot of the orbalisk armor is finally finished in this book. (hide spoiler)] This book has Darth Zannah kind of coming into her own. It also has a near miss between the Sith and the Jedi, which results in a pretty awesome lightsaber battle. It is hard to discuss the book much more without spoilers.
(view spoiler)[Darth Zannah finally challenges her Master and essentially defeats him. It turns out that he possibly transferred his spirit over to her body in his goal to seek immortality. So in doing so Bane does not really die, but instead goes on to possess her. This kind of defeats the Rule of Two idea and also is dissatisfying. Admittedly, it is almost wrong to end a series like this with the death of the main character, and it must be hard for the author to let go of him, but still it was annoying to not have a clean break at the end- especially since it took Zannah so long to finally try to overthrow Bane (hide spoiler)].
It was a pretty good conclusion to the series.
